Very attentive, kind, caring! I loved how every step was explained from the consultation, payment and procedure. I was dreading the actual procedure however it went so much better than I anticipated. I appreciated how during the procedure there were calm reassuring voices checking on me. Thank you! The follow up care was exceptional! I felt very well cared for and then pleasantly surprised to get a check up call to see how I was faring. I highly recommend AOS of Tampa for any oral needs.

Cosmetic dentistry can make a major difference in your life. Thanks to gum contouring surgery, this patient has a bigger, brighter, and more proportionate smile.

The Gum Contouring Treatment Timeline What to Expect from Your Cosmetic Dentistry Procedure

Gum contouring is minimally invasive and has a quick healing period.
Gum contouring is minimally invasive and has a quick healing period.

Consultation

Our dental team will assess your oral health to make sure you're a good candidate for this cosmetic procedure. If you have any lingering concerns like tooth decay or damaged gums, our oral surgeons will review your dental treatment options in order to reinstate your candidacy for gum contouring.

Local Anesthetic

Before we reshape your gums, you will be administered a local anesthetic to numb your mouth. If you have dental anxiety or trouble sitting still, ask Dr. Thomas Backeris or Dr. Jason Edwards about sedation dentistry

Gum Reshaping

Our oral surgeons will gently remove excess gum tissue, making each tooth more proportional to each other. Advanced Oral Surgery of Tampa takes a conservative approach when removing gum tissue.

Results

This cosmetic dentistry treatment should only take one to two hours at our dentist's office. Some minor side effects like light bleeding and swollen gums are common but should heal in the days after your dental treatment.

Caring For Your Gums
After Your Cosmetic Dentistry Treatment

Managing Pain

Your gums will likely feel sore and swollen the first few days after you leave our dental office. We recommend resting directly after your dental treatment, allowing your body to focus on healing. Over-the-counter pain medication can usually help manage any side effects.

Diet

For the first week after you leave our dental office, you should avoid eating foods that can irritate your gums while they heal. Spicy food and hard foods can be painful to eat. Cool, soft foods that are gentle on the gums like yogurt or cottage cheese will help you avoid discomfort.

Dental Hygiene

It is important to keep brushing and flossing after your procedure. While your gums are healing, you should be gentle while brushing. Saline rinses are a good way to remove food and debris from your gums during the healing process.

Follow-up Appointments

As your gums heal, you should attend follow-up appointments at our South Tampa, Valrico, Wesley Chapel or Land O' Lakes, FL, offices. While most patients experience no complications during the healing process, our team can make sure there are no other issues with your oral health following your treatment.

Paying for Treatment

When it comes to seeking treatment, many patients are concerned about affordability. Advanced Oral Surgery of Tampa offers many solutions to ensure the cost does not prevent you from receiving the care you need.

Financing and Insurance

Our team will always work within your budget. To help make treatment affordable, we offer payment plans and accept financing through CareCredit®, LendingClub®, and Compassionate Finance™.

As a cosmetic treatment, gum contouring is usually not covered by dental insurance. During your consultation, our team can review your financial options and pick a plan that works for your busy life.
